"Finding the Dark Horse"
- Finding a person about whom little is known, especially one with potential as a competitor.
To ‘keep dark’, meaning to keep a secret is an expression going back at least 400 years, so it is possible that the related dark horse (a racehorse of unknown form but thought to have a good chance) existed in racing slang before it was first recorded in print in Disraeli’s novel The Young Duke (1831). Be that as it may, it soon became a popular metaphor for a person with unknown or hidden qualities.

Miller McKenzie provide professional headhunters and search and selection specialists for clients nationwide.
“There is no point in having the best product in the world if you don’t have the best people to deliver your message.”
So how do you recruit the best people?
Top achievers are likely to be fully occupied with their careers and don’t read adverts, search job boards on the net or ring around recruitment companies, in fact they are probably not looking to change jobs at all. They may work for your competition or be in a different sector with transferable skills. They therefore need to be identified, skills and experience analysed and measured against the Role Specification. Career Profiles need to be created, candidates briefed, interviews arranged, advice given, references collected, shortlists created, offers negotiated, counter offers managed - all handled professionally and confidentially. This process is known as Executive Search, and it provides a higher calibre of candidate than any other recruitment method.
Since 1995 Miller McKenzie have been locating, recruiting and delivering high quality candidates in the construction, industrial and security sectors. We are proud of our service and achieve a 97% success rate on our retained searches.
